Is the new 2019 Lincoln Navigator the right car for you?

There are a lot of exciting things going in the automotive industry right now and 2019 is definitely a year that car enthusiasts have been looking forward to. With long-awaited launches such as the large Alfa Romeo SUV, the Aston Martin Varekai and companies like Tesla shaking things up, drivers have a lot to talk to talk about.

But there’s one car that has enjoyed a lot of hype lately and that deserves a closer look: the 2019 Lincoln Navigator. Continuing the legacy of luxury SUVs that Lincoln started two decades ago and that were awarded at many auto shows, the 2019 installment is fully worthy of its flagship status.

If you plan on changing your car this year, but you’re not sure if this particular model is the best one for you, this is all you need to know about the latest Lincoln Navigator:

Full-sized SUV for large families

Although there is some versatility to how the 2019 Lincoln Navigator can be used, it was clearly designed and build with one client in mind: the large family. This model weighs no less than 6,000 pounds and measures 17 feet – or 18.5, if you want to go for the longer version. This means that it can fit comfortably an entire family of seven with all the additional baggage you might think of. If you want to take your kids and their friends for a camping weekend, you definitely won’t have to make sacrifices and leave any items at home. On the plus side, if you want to have a spacious car that inspires luxury, this is it. However, keep in mind that with so much cargo space also come parking issues. This is definitely not a practical car for driving around in a busy city and you will have trouble maneuvering it on narrow streets.

Choosing a car for a family involves doing some research in the safety department, and you’ll be pleased to find out that Lincoln didn’t cut any corners here. This one is packed with safety features, including 4-wheel ABS, front and side impact airbags and brake assists.

Comfort and luxury

From the minutely polished interiors to the sophisticated luxury of the exterior, the 2019 Lincoln Navigator is a high-class, elegant car for the driver that wants it all. The color scheme is a nice callback to the iconic 1970s models, the leg room satisfies even the tallest and pickiest passenger and you’ll hardly find an SUV in its class with better adaptive suspension. Basically, if you want to go on a long road trip and feel like you’re seated in a first-class flight, this Lincoln gets pretty close to that experience. And it’s not just the fabrics and colors that make the car so elegant, but the climate control features as well: automatic climate control, HVAC memory and rear air conditioning.

The tech

The past years have brought major innovations in car tech and the 2019 Navigator jumps on that bandwagon with some features that will impress all tech-savvy drivers:

  • Premium 20-speaker surround sound system that can be configured easily
  • Wireless charging pads with a 12V and 115V sockets cover all your smartphone charging needs
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
  • Sync 3 compatible with Amazon Alexa
  • Wi-Fi hotspot can support up to 10 devices
  • A wide variety of driving aids, such as adaptive cruise control, lane assists and collision warning systems
  • Garage door transmitter through HomeLink

But there are some downsides to the tech as well. Although the car has voice control, it often fails at understanding natural language. Also, the default navigation system is quite basic and you’ll have to change it with something else.

Driving experience

Considering its size, the Navigator is surprisingly easy to maneuver, especially on highways and suburban streets. The 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 is very snappy and turning on the Excite mode will make the driving experience even more exciting.

Apart from Excite and the default 4×4 automatic, you also have other modes for driving in mud and snow or on difficult terrain.

A tow package is also available and you can use this Navigator to tow up to 8,700 pounds, assisted by trailer monitoring tech and a Slow Climb driving mode.

Overall, this Navigator was designed with smooth, comfortable, seamless driving in mind, but the twin-turbocharged V6 can please more adventurous drivers as well.

Price and fuel consumption

The 2019 Lincoln Navigator offers everything you could want in terms of comfort and luxury. If you want to treat yourself to a reliable family car that will serve you for years, this is a great investment. That being said, all of these features come at a cost and Lincoln, after all, isn’t particularly known for its budget-friendly cars. For a fully loaded model you can pay up to $100,000 – which isn’t a surprising price tag for cars in the luxury SUV category, but not an inviting price tag either if you’re outside the target demographic.

While at the topic of price, it should also be mentioned that the Navigator has a large footprint and has high fuel consumption, so this isn’t the best option if you are leaning more towards green vehicles. Nevertheless, this model beat competitors such as the Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX80, or Land Rover Range Rover, and you can save on fuel by using the Conserve drive mode.

Bottom line

The 2019 Lincoln Navigator is a luxurious family SUV that makes no compromise on power and safety. The ideal choice for large families who value comfort and elegance above all else.
